How to Prepare For Your Photoshoot
One thing that many of my clients struggle with is deciding how they should prepare for their photoshoot. They want to know the location, weather, what to wear, colors to choose and more. For all of my clients, I include a “Photoshoot Preparation Sheet” that includes all of this. Below, you can see an image of what it may look like. In this blog, I am going to discuss how you can prepare for your own photoshoot, and at the end, how you can make your own photoshoot preparation sheet!

What To Wear
Many of my clients ask me “what should I wear to the photoshoot?” The answer to that question depends on many factors, including…
- What you are comfortable with
- What kind of photoshoot it is (family, individual, and more!)
- Location (colors, landscape, sky)
- Weather
- And more!
I usually tell my clients something along the lines of — Wear what you think would be comfortable to wear for an hour, depending on the weather the day of the session — this tends to be sufficient.
One of the most important things is to wear colors that aren’t going to collide with the landscape and the time of the year (winter, spring, summer or fall). Below are some colors that I suggest for each season…
Winter

Spring

Summer

Fall

Accessories
With me, you are always welcome to bring accessories/props (and pets too!). I am always welcome to adjusting the photoshoot depending on what shots you want with your accessories. One time, I had a client bring a dressed up skeleton!

Location
One of the most important things for you to know is where we are taking photos, where we are going to meet, and what the weather is going to be like. On every photoshoot preparation sheet, I include all of these details. I even include a link to Google Maps of where we are going to be taking photos. All of these details will be confirmed with you at least 1 week prior to the photoshoot. You can read more about how the scheduling system works here!
To sum up, the important things to know are
- Where we are taking photos
- Where we are meeting
- Weather at location
- What the landscape is like
What You Can Expect From Me
For every full-session photoshoot, there are 4 things that I guarantee my clients…
- A minimum of 40 photos delivered
- A minimum of 1 hour session, up to 1.5 hours (unless otherwise specified)
- 5 photo re-edits/revisions
- 1 week turnaround
